Wickersley students compete in the English Schools Cross Country Championship

Following their success at the South Yorkshire Cross Country event in Penistone, 5 students from Wickersley qualified to represent South Yorkshire at the English Schools Cross Country Championship which this year took place in Pontefract.

Luke Parker (Y13) and George Ellis (Y12) both competed in the senior boys 6k race. Luke completed the course in 22 minutes and 37 seconds securing 191st place out of the 307 senior boys competing. George finished the race in 23:31 finishing in 255th.

Eva Smith (Y10) competed in the Intermediate Girls 3.5km event and completed the course in 15:25 finishing 249th out of 343.

Louis Johnson and Matilda Holmes (Y9) both ran in the 3.2km junior events, Louis finished the course in 11:39, finishing in 237th out of 343 in the boys race and Matilda finished in 91st out of 339 in the girls race in a time of 12:21.

The students are always a credit to the school showing extreme levels of determination and resilience whenever they compete. We look forward to seeing their future successes in the summer athletics season which is just around the corner.
