Sixth Form and Y11 Drama students recently enjoyed a two-day trip to London’s West End and South Bank. The students saw two shows – the revenge tragedy, The Duchess (of Malfi), starring Jodie Whittaker at the Trafalgar Theatre, and the celebrated stage musical, Operation Mincemeat, at the Fortune Theatre.
The students took part in a practical workshop at Pineapple Studios led by Elizabeth Ayodele, a cast member of The Duchess (of Malfi), in which they examined character dynamics in an extract from the play text. The group also had a tour of the National Theatre, learning about the three different theatre performance spaces and exploring the backstage and production workshop areas.
Y13 students will write about The Duchess (of Malfi) in their final written examination, and the Y12 students will draw on both productions to influence their own devised drama work.
