During last half term, WSSC students took part in a variety of activities for Interfaith Week! Here is what some of the students thought of their experience:
‘In my first workshop as a RE Ambassador, we covered the Southport stabbing riots and how people were targeted. We read a short article about how some misinformation lead to these actions and how these events occurred. As we read, we covered some words like scapegoating (blaming a group or person for problems if they are not at fault), and we learnt their definitions.
I think my favourite parts of the lesson was the research on diversity for the NATRE competition and making posters on how different religions are diverse and show different qualities. I enjoyed seeing the different ways religions show good qualities, and going around the room sharing what we researched.’

‘I have had a lot of RE experiences, such as looking at different media and the impacts, and going to the Gurdwara, but my favourite experience is the mosque place of worship, because we got to explore the mosque and learn about the different properties of the mosque. I feel like it was the best experience because everyone learnt something new. Also, we got to see how they pray and some students got involved by praying as well.’

‘I learned a lot about diversity in our local community, and we debated on whether people were respectful of the differences in the community, making a poster about a religion or belief, and entering a competition which showed the topic of Stronger Together. I enjoyed designing my competition idea, because we found a creative way to express Living in a Diverse World. The most interesting part, in my opinion, was making the poster about how a religion or belief shows the topic because I got to learn new facts and real-world experiences but in a more creative way.’

‘On Wednesday 27th November, I participated in the RE workshop. The activity I enjoyed the most was researching Christianity and creating a poster with our findings. I also enjoyed learning about the cause of the riots. Towards the end of the workshop, I was introduced to the RE competition and started planning for it. I’m really looking forward to working on this.’
