All Y13 Physics students took part in the Physics Challenge from the British Physics Olympiad. This paper is designed to stretch thinking into the applications and ideas, rather than to keep to the narrow content of the syllabus, preparing students for further work, or for interview practice.
A smaller group of the Y13 Physics students also asked to be entered into the Astro Challenge. This paper is a mix of questions on astronomy and physics, that allows students to analyse data through to a conclusion, including concepts seen in physics being applied to astrophysical contexts.
We were delighted for some of our students to experience success across both these competitions:
⭐ Daisy achieved a Merit in the Physics Challenge Paper
⭐ Tom achieved a Merit in the Astro Challenge Paper
Finally, six of our students took part in the British Physics Olympiad Round 1. This is the first of the selection papers for the UK team for the International Physics Olympiad. However, it is also a paper about physics problem solving, and is taken by those who have a keen interest in raising their problem solving skills. This is a very challenging 2 hour 40 minute paper, and simply taking part is a fantastic achievement.
In the British Physics Olympiad Paper:
⭐ Nile achieved a Bronze 2 award
⭐ Daisy, Michael, and Louis achieved a Bronze 1 award
⭐ Mark and Korben achieved a Silver award
We are incredibly proud of our students for challenging themselves to achieve their very best. Keep up the hard work!
