Rotherham Schools Cup Finals

On Saturday 22nd March, we hosted the Rotherham Schools Cup Finals for Rotherham’s best talents. We saw close games, last minute winners, and the best that Rotherham football has to offer at Wickersley School and Sports College. In near perfect conditions, the players gave their all as they competed for their respective schools in this prestigious competition. This year, we saw five fixtures, 13 goals, 1 last minute winner, and Clifton compete for the first time since 1995!

Year 7, the newest arrivals to the Rotherham Cup, produced a very close game between Clifton and Brinsworth Academy, but Brinsworth pinched the game at 3-2, thanks to a last minute free kick. Both teams had chances throughout the game, which could have swung either way, as both teams battled in their first opportunity to experience the RSFA finals day. A special mention must go to Clifton, as this set of players represented their school on Finals Day for the first time in 30 years.

In the Y8 game, Wales won 1-0 in the closest game of the morning against Wickersley. There were limited chances throughout, as both teams were highly competitive and well organised defensively. This game had some outstanding quality on show!

Wickersley won at Y10, beating Swinton Academy 2-0, with the scorers being A Mason and D Vernon. Wickersley have dominated with this year group 4 years in a row now.

In the Sixth Form fixture, our oldest players were put on a show and the game could have gone either way throughout. O Mountain notched for Wickersley, but in the end it was Thomas Rotherham College who claimed the trophy.

Well done to everyone who attended!
