Earlier this year, Y10 Separate Physics and Y12 A-Level Physics students took part in the experimental project from the British Physics Olympiad.
The project involved investigating how a basketball transferred energy to a tennis ball during a collision. This aimed to model how spacecrafts are able to travel much faster by completing a gravitational assist maneuver, as they ‘slingshot’ from planets in the Solar System.
The students worked incredibly hard on their projects and the best from each year was submitted to the British Physics Olympiad to be officially judged. In Y12, Jake and George received a Bronze Award, and in Y10, Amy, Freya, and Elucia received a Silver Award.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and on Tuesday morning, they were invited alongside a selection of other students, to a breakfast celebration with Mr Hardcastle and Mr Frith to recognise how outstanding an achievement it was.
Our Silver Award winners were also invited to the British Physics Olympiad’s Annual Awards Dinner at The Royal Society in London, and we are looking forward to celebrating further with them.
