Y8/9 History Trip!

This month, 37 Year 8 and 9 students travelled to the battlefields of Belgium and France to visit the site of the First World War. The group stayed in Ypres and visited a number of British and German war cemeteries and memorials to the missing, including the largest British and Commonwealth war cemetery at Tyne Cot.

They travelled down to the Somme region of France and visited the largest memorial in the world, Thiepval. Students learnt how the war was fought in the trenches and some of the stories of the soldiers who were involved. They also visited the old medieval city of Bruges, and enjoyed a trip on the canal.

The visit culminated in the Menin Gate ceremony on the last night where three students laid a wreath on behalf of the school. The students had a wonderful time and learned a lot from visiting the places that they have studied in their History lessons. They were an absolute credit to the school and a pleasure to take.

Well done everyone!
